Wow, great article and such a forward-thinking young woman. I can only imagine how hard the CF life would be in a place like Utah, where huge families are the
norm. It makes me grateful for living in cities like San Francisco (the CF capital of the US) and Boston.
Thanks for posting! |

Great find, Catsrock. Happy Valley - what a scary place to live - such an interesting article to read. I wish her luck when she tells her family of their
decision.

iandysgrl - fab article and thanks for coming to say
hello. I hope you'll stay and join in with our CF banter in our small but perfectly formed CF haven. We're mostly from the UK but there are a few
others from the US and Europe here too. There's a Getting to Know You thread in the New Member's section - introduce yourself there

What a lovely, encouraging article. Know exactly how she feels/felt as I to have been married for 2 years and the questions have already started. I'm
fortunate that my brother-in-law is having the kids, so giving the traditional, opinionated father-in-law the grandkids he so desperatley wants and my parents
arn't bothered about grandchildren. Thank the lord!

Great article.
" But you would make such a great mother," a co-worker proclaims. This happened to me a few years ago, I know the person who said meant well, she knew I was CF, I wasn't insulted just a bit surprised to say the least. |

Great articles . . I really enjoyed reading them. It is always good to read about other people's perspectives on this issue. I also liked the article on
the same site which is called ' having a baby will ruin your life' . . . oh how I wish someone would admitt that to me . . I have had a few friends
(and mothers) who have hinted but have not gone as far as to actually say it . . . it is sooo frustrating when you know people who realise they have made a
mistake but won't actually say it to you . . . we are the brave ones who will dare to live against the grain . . . .

I've had the "You'd make a great mother", no doubt intended as a compliment, but taken as a "wtf?" I'd make a shit mother
because I don't like kids. No-one who has has ever had to witness me awkwardly trying to converse with friends children could think otherwise. It is weird
tho, as if you might say "well, I wasn't going to, but since you think I'd be good at it, I might just was well go for it"

neeneenoonoo wrote:I have had two very honest mum's at different times in the past tell me that if they had known what parenthood would have been like they wouldn't have gone ahead. They were older with their kids having grown up. I am so grateful to them for their honesty. They were very supportive of my CF life and advised me not be pushed or forced into conforming. That I know my own mind and parenthood was not right for everyone. It really helped me to feel validated. I think it takes and very honest person to admit what they did. It's a total social and cultural taboo in the 'hardworking families' culture in the UK. |
