Obviously there are two sides to every story and one wonders if the Welsh women gobbed off to the shopkeeper. Having worked in shops myself I know how rude customers can be, trouble is they bloody get away with it!
My aunt works in the town concerned and knows people who know the shopkeeper and what she actually said to the women was 'If you speak in English, I'll be able to help you'. She didn't just summarily have a go at them for speaking Welsh. Personally I think the whole thing is ludicrous and blown out of all proportion. A councillor has gone/is going to the shop concerned to speak to the shopkeeper in an attempt to repair the island's "tarnished" image (I hope she chucks the pompous wanker out).
What gets me is that the whole thing is a mountain made out of a molehill. What makes me laugh is some utter twat of a councillor describing it as a 'major diplomatic incident'! WTF?? It was a minor spat between three women, hardly the stuff of high diplomacy. This is the Isle of Wight, not Tehran or Moscow. All sense of proportion has gone out of the window.
I notice the women have scored a free holiday, I wonder if getting a freebie or some other - monetary - compo was the reason behind all this ridiculous fuss?
Come back plea to Welsh sisters
PS, I'm not posting this to have a pop at the Welsh. I like Welsh people myself. I'm posting this because it annoys me how people big up stuff that doesn't deserve any publicity whatsoever.

Childfree means freedom,
why the hell would you want to give that up.
