Child benefit to rise by 1.5% in 2010
Free school meals to an extra 500,000 low income families

AND...

National insurance to rise by 0.5% from April 2011
All public sector pay settlements to be capped at 1% for two years from 2011 (so that's my wages stuffed for at least the next two years).

This may sound a small victory, but it got me chuffed!

First some background for my non teacher friends... we all get some "PPA" time during the week - time out of class to do the huge amounts of paperwork sucessive governments think is important. People also in my school tend to use this time for docs appointments and stuff, as its easier.

I went to Westfield on Saturday - I am not the biggest fan of shopping centres but I did enjoy going here as it is sooooo big. All the kids toys and clothes shops are bunched together so that you can avoid the kids and Moos (yeay!!) . . . . all the designers are there - I couldn't afford to buy from them, but it was nice to nosey around them to see what they sold. The other day OH and I spotted Little Monsters Indoor Play Zone. And today I saw Mini Beasts Play Club. Monsters, beasts - are the parents proud that there little brats are so badly behaved? Whats a 'yummy mummy'? I've heard this bandied about for ages and I think the definition completely passed me by. The whole word does seem to be a bit of an oxymoron to me? My SIL has just brought a nappy bag for rug dribbler which has the word yummy mummy printed in the side. What does that mean?

Anyone know and would care to explain it and where it came from?

Apparently Ed Miliband has incurred the wrath of 'eco-aware mothers' (the BBC's words, not mine) because he and his wife use disposable nappies for their rugrat and not reusable ones. This is entirely laughable, especially as Miliband is Environment Secretary and is a bit keen on all matters environmental and also because 'eco-aware mothers' is an oxymoron.
The other laughable aspect of all this is that it seems as if the politicians are keen to bend over backwards...
